What works in a mystery thumbnail
- Hide something. A face in shadow, a half-open door, a blurred or circled object. The brain wants to complete the picture.
- Dramatic lighting. A dark background with a single red or bluish light source creates instant tension.
- A question, not the answer. “What did he see?”, “No one can explain this”. Short text that opens a mystery.
- Fear or doubt on your face. Your reaction to the mystery helps the viewer feel the same thing.
- Mind the rules. In true crime, avoid real graphic images and sensationalizing victims; YouTube may restrict the video.
